Comal ISD is listed with 13 total PREP participants for the 2026–27 school year, while Texas has announced $40 million for 411 school systems statewide.
The governor announced the teacher workforce funding Oct. 26, and the Texas Education Agency lists Comal ISD in its district-by-district participant table.
From the source record
Governor Greg Abbott today announced $40 million to 411 Texas school systems through the Preparing and Retaining Educators through Partnerships (PREP) Program Allotment.Office of the Texas Governor ↗
For Comal ISD schools, the state’s September snapshot counts 13 preservice residency participants, connecting the district to a program intended to prepare future teachers. The table records 13 under “PREP Preservice Residency Participants,” an X under mentorship, and zero under Grow Your Own. TEA says X means a school system is not participating in that program; zero means it is participating but had entered no participants.
The count is a snapshot of entries in the Educator Certification Online System as of 11:59 p.m. Sept. 11, 2026. TEA says participants added afterward are excluded and later updates could change the totals. The 13 is a participant count, not a dollar award or a count of new teachers hired.
The announcement gives the $40 million statewide figure. The Comal ISD row gives participation counts, not a district dollar allocation. Residents can inspect the named district row on TEA’s PREP page and watch for a later funding record that specifies what Comal ISD receives.
