Comal County commissioners will consider a $259,000 second-phase soccer-field lighting project at Jumbo Evans Sports Park on Sept. 24.
The proposed agreement would add lighting for BYSA’s Phase 2 soccer fields, cap the county’s contribution at $239,000, assign BYSA $20,000 and any budget overrun, and keep the lighting as county property.
A BYSA check to Comal County, dated Sept. 13, lists $20,000 for the Phase 2 light deposit. Commissioners are scheduled to decide whether to accept that donation along with the construction and project agreement.
The April 28 turnkey quote lists 55 LED fixtures, five steel poles and reused Phase 1 controls, with a 10-year equipment warranty.
The quoted total includes delivery and installation but excludes taxes and certain added site-condition costs.
How the cost split works
The proposed project agreement says BYSA has used the soccer fields under a county facilities agreement since April 11, 2024.
If project costs exceed $259,000, BYSA would have 30 days after notice to fund the difference; otherwise, the county could reduce or cancel the project.
The quote says the price was firm for 45 days from April 28. Its project notes also identify wet ground, rock, water, difficult access and other foundation conditions as possible sources of added cost.
What happens next
Commissioners are scheduled to consider the construction and authorize the county judge to sign the agreement on Sept. 24.
