Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced Oct. 30 that Comal County is among 20 counties approved for FEMA Individual Assistance after July storms and flooding. The announcement opens an application path for people with eligible losses; it does not say that every county resident qualifies.
Comal County residents with eligible disaster-related expenses can apply, but county inclusion does not guarantee an individual award. The governor’s office says assistance may cover temporary housing, emergency home repairs, uninsured or underinsured personal property losses, disaster legal services, disaster unemployment assistance, and medical, dental or funeral expenses caused by the disaster.

The governor’s office says Texans can apply at disasterassistance.gov or by calling 800-621-3362. Its announcement describes an approved state appeal and says a separate appeal for hazard-mitigation grant funding remains pending.
For the next step, affected residents can use the application route given in the governor’s announcement and inspect that announcement’s county list and expense categories. Applicants should check FEMA’s application process for the deadline and the requirements that apply to their losses.
