Schertz announced Stage 3 water restrictions after a major transmission line break took one Schertz Seguin Local Government Corporation treatment plant offline. The city’s Oct. 25 notice says alternate supply cannot meet normal demand while repairs are underway.

Residents may not use sprinkler systems; handheld or drip watering is limited to their address’s assigned weekday before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m. The designated day depends on the last digit of the service address.

Watering days by address

The city assigns addresses ending in 0 or 1 to Monday, 2 or 3 to Tuesday, 4 or 5 to Wednesday, 6 or 7 to Thursday, and 8 or 9 to Friday. On the assigned day, handheld or drip watering is allowed only before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m.

Other prohibited uses and updates

The restrictions also prohibit filling, refilling or adding water to pools and hot tubs, along with nonessential vehicle, hard-surface and power washing. The notice lists restrictions on fountains, construction hydrant use and dust control, with limited exceptions for fountains.

Schertz says it will share updates as more information becomes available. Residents can check the city’s Stage 3 notice for the posted rules and updates, or call 311 or 210-619-1000 with questions. A dated city or utility repair update is the next record that could clarify when restrictions may change.
