On first reading, the council approved a special use permit for a short-term rental at 242 East Austin Street, requested by Jeremy Coburn.

The Oct. 26 vote was unanimous, according to the verified council recording review. First-reading approval does not establish final permission to operate a rental.

On first reading, the council approved a special use permit for a short-term rental at 1064 Comal Avenue, requested by Blackbird Development Group on behalf of the property owner. The verified recording review also describes that vote as unanimous. The two requests remain separate proposals, each requiring a later disposition before it can be described as finally approved.

What the East Austin filing proposes

City staff recommended approval of the East Austin request with a gravel driveway and parking area improved to asphalt or concrete, the home's residential character maintained, and compliance with the submitted site and floor plans. Those are staff recommendations in the reviewed file, not separately verified conditions of a final ordinance.

For the East Austin property, staff described a five-occupant maximum and two paved parking spaces. The staff material describes a two-bedroom, one-bathroom home of about 732 square feet on roughly 0.16 acre. These details tell nearby residents the scale of the request; the first-reading vote does not itself establish that the rental is operating.

What comes next

The next official record to check is the council's subsequent ordinance reading for each address. Residents can use the Oct. 26 agenda to identify the two requests and then compare any later ordinance with the staff recommendations, particularly the East Austin parking proposal. A later decision and any operating-permit record will establish what, if anything, becomes effective.
