On first reading, the council denied Sun Communities' request to rezone about 11.44 acres at 141 Ruekle Road from C-3 to C-3 with a special use permit, which would have allowed manufactured homes.

The Oct. 26 roll call was 5–1; Council Member Edwards voted against denial.

The request would have allowed manufactured homes on about 11.44 acres at 141 Rueckle Road. For nearby residents, the immediate result is that this request did not receive its first council approval. The city's public notice describes the proposed use and the location.

What the city was asked to change

The property was zoned C-3 when the request was posted. Sun Communities sought a C-3 special-use overlay for manufactured homes, according to the city's notice. The requested zoning change was a proposal for that parcel, not an authorization to place homes there.

The Oct. 26 council agenda placed the request before members for a public hearing and first reading. The posted agenda identified it as Item 2C, file 26-1205. Residents can inspect the posted agenda for the meeting's formal description of the request.

What comes next

The city's notice says approval of the special-use permit requires two council readings. It also says an approved ordinance would take effect immediately after a second council approval. Because council denied the request at its first reading, the proposed overlay has not reached that approval point.

The next public record to check is the city's action history for file 26-1205 or a later posted council agenda. Either could show whether a revised request or another procedural step is scheduled. The city's public notice explains the original request, while the meeting agenda identifies the file residents can use to follow it.
