The City of New Braunfels says about 3.1 miles of natural-surface trails are now open at Northwest Park.
The city announced the opening Oct. 26, describing this as the first group of trails at the park. Its announcement rates the trails as low difficulty and says they cross woodlands, grasslands and stretches of historic jeep roads.
From the source record
The Northwest Park trail system is now open daily, from 6am to 10pm, with the primary trailhead located at 965 Conrads Lane.City of New Braunfels ↗
Residents can enter at the primary trailhead at 965 Conrads Lane daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The city says it has installed tree-mounted trail markers and wayfinding signs, along with a kiosk map at the trailhead. It also describes minor parking improvements and portable restrooms.
Northwest Park covers more than 140 acres, according to the city. A kiosk map shows proposed connections to future Sunflower Ridge Park and the existing Alligator Creek West Loop, but those links are separate from the 3.1 miles the city says are open now. The city says the connected system would offer about five miles of paved and unpaved trails once complete; it gives no opening date for those connections in the announcement.
A longer-term master plan is still to come. The city says it expects to present that plan to City Council in the coming weeks. Residents can inspect the city’s announcement for the current access details and its description of the proposed connections; the future plan will provide the next opportunity to see how the park may develop.
