Comal ISD could commit up to $11,643,225 in district funds to pay outstanding and future health-insurance claims for people covered by its self-funded plan, under a proposal scheduled for Sept. 17.

From discussion to a funding request
A Sept. 10 board workshop placed self-funded insurance coverage on its discussion agenda without listing a funding amount. Comal.News previewed that workshop before the new recommendation and dollar figures appeared.
The Sept. 17 posting changes the issue from a scheduled discussion into a request for approval. The two proposed components add to the stated $11,643,225 ceiling; about two-thirds would address outstanding claims, with the remainder available for later claims.
What trustees decide next
Trustees are scheduled to take up the proposal during their 7 p.m. Sept. 17 regular meeting. The public notice identifies the posting as Version 1, and any commitment will depend on the board’s recorded action.
The posted package leaves three consequential questions: which district fund would supply the money, how many employees and dependents are covered, and whether the request would affect premiums, benefits or plan design. A district response or later supporting record is needed to answer them.
