The Schertz Planning and Zoning Commission recommended denying the five-acre RDO Equipment rezoning request 6-1, and City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing Sept. 15.
If approved, General Business II zoning would allow outdoor storage on the five-acre expansion, but the site would still have to meet Schertz development and outdoor-storage rules.
City staff says the five acres form part of a roughly 13-acre tract currently used as an extension of RDO Equipment Company. The staff memorandum says the property is unplatted and does not have approved development permits.
The adjoining RDO operation has a separate baseline: a 2008 Schertz ordinance granted a specific-use permit for heavy-equipment sales and rentals on 7.79 acres. The current request concerns the five-acre expansion, not that existing permit area.
Comal.News previously reported the Sept. 15 zoning hearings from the city’s public notices. The council packet adds the commission’s vote and explains that the GB-2 request is intended to permit outdoor storage.
The agenda places the site about 1,555 feet east of FM 2252 along the northbound Interstate 35 access road and identifies it as part of Comal County Property Identification Number 73267.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Hal Baldwin Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway. Residents may inspect Item 20 and the agenda’s instructions for addressing council before the meeting; the recorded council action will establish the proposal’s next stage.
