Drivers on Ralph Fair Road now face a 50 mph speed limit throughout Fair Oaks Ranch, five miles per hour below the previous limit. The city announced that the change took effect Aug. 3 after the Texas Department of Transportation installed updated signs along the road, which is also designated FM 3351.
The change applies to the full portion of Ralph Fair Road within the Fair Oaks Ranch city limits, according to the city’s announcement. The existing 35 mph school zone did not change and continues to apply when the school-zone lights are flashing.
How the city describes the change
Fair Oaks Ranch said its Transportation Safety Advisory Committee and City Council discussed a lower limit last year in response to safety concerns along the roadway. The city also said TxDOT conducted an engineering and traffic study at the request of Camp Bullis and Camp Stanley around the same period.
Based on that study, the city said, the Texas Transportation Commission approved a 50 mph limit for the entire segment of FM 3351 within Fair Oaks Ranch. The announcement says TxDOT notified the city of the approved change on May 7, 2026.
The Fair Oaks Ranch City Council then adopted Ordinance 2026-04 on June 18, amending the city’s speed-limit ordinance to reflect the change, according to the city. The Aug. 3 announcement marks the point when the new signs were installed and the lower posted limit took effect.
Watch the signs beyond the city limits
The city also said speed limits have changed on portions of FM 3351 immediately outside Fair Oaks Ranch. It did not list every limit or transition point in the announcement, so drivers continuing beyond the city should follow the posted signs as the limit may change along the route.
For trips through Fair Oaks Ranch, the practical change is straightforward: the regular posted limit is now 50 mph, while the flashing school-zone limit remains 35 mph. The city’s announcement did not identify any additional phase-in period after Aug. 3.
