The New Braunfels Library Advisory Board is scheduled to review and possibly approve Library Policy 2.11 on internet and electronic-resource use on Oct. 27.

The posted agenda places the proposal at item 6, identified as 26-1279. For people who depend on the library’s public technology, the attached policy text offers a way to see the rules the board will examine before any action is recorded.

The attached policy text describes wireless service as free; the board’s Oct. 27 agenda calls for review and possible approval.

The proposed policy review concerns patrons who use library computers, wireless service and printing. The attachment addresses what patrons may do on library computers, responsibility for internet content, printing fees and circumstances in which a patron could lose computer access. It also describes the availability and security limits of the library’s wireless service. Those provisions give residents concrete topics to examine as the board considers the policy.

What the policy says

The attached Policy 2.11 says wireless connectivity is available at no charge at New Braunfels Public Library. Its wireless provisions also describe limits on security, a practical consideration for patrons choosing to connect their own devices. The computer provisions place responsibility for internet content on patrons and set expectations for conduct while using library equipment. The text treats printing separately from free wireless connectivity: patrons are responsible for printing fees. Readers can inspect the full policy language before the meeting instead of relying on this summary of its subjects.

The posted item calls for “review and possible approval,” which leaves the board’s action for the meeting itself. The attached text includes earlier approval, revision and endorsement dates; those dates belong to the policy’s history and do not establish a decision on Oct. 27. The useful question for residents following item 6 is what policy language the board ultimately accepts or asks to change. The meeting record after Tuesday will be the place to verify that answer.

Other board business

Item 5 schedules monthly operations updates from the library director, the Public Library Foundation and Friends of the Library. Those reports give the board a regular view of library activity alongside the policy proposal. The agenda also calls for approval of minutes, provides time for communications from citizens and board members, and leaves room to identify subjects for a later agenda. Call to order, roll call and adjournment complete the posted sequence.

Attend and follow the decision

The board's Oct. 27 meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at New Braunfels Public Library, 700 E. Common St. Residents can use the posted agenda to locate the policy item and the public-communications period before arriving. The agenda says people who need auxiliary aids should contact the City Secretary’s Office at (830) 221-4010 at least two workdays before the meeting.

Agenda item 4 reserves time for communications from citizens and board members on matters outside the agenda, with no board action at that time. Anyone following the internet-use policy should distinguish that general communications period from item 6, where the board is scheduled to review the policy itself. This is an advance guide, so it cannot describe testimony or a board response that has yet to occur.

The agenda lists Nov. 24, 2026, as the board's next meeting. After Oct. 27, readers can check the item 6 legislation record for the board’s disposition and the meeting record for any direction about policy language or a later return. The posted agenda proposes approval but records no decision on the policy.
