New Braunfels’ Heritage Commission will begin shaping the city’s 2027 heritage-grant cycle on Thursday, Aug. 13, while also considering a possible update to the rules governing Arts & Heritage grants.
The meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Tejas Room at City Hall, 550 Landa Street. The posted agenda describes two separate items: possible approval of updated grant guidelines and deliberation over the 2027 Heritage hotel-occupancy-tax grant process. It does not contain proposed 2027 award amounts or identify applicants for that cycle.
Prior allocations return in draft minutes
The packet also includes draft minutes from the commission’s Dec. 10, 2025, meeting. Those minutes record approval of allocations to five organizations for the 2026 award period: $94,857 for Sophienburg Archives & Museum, $81,672 for the Heritage Society of New Braunfels, $66,802 for the New Braunfels Conservation Society, $56,384 for the New Braunfels Historic Railroad & Modelers Society and $51,821 for the Wurstfest Association.
The draft says the commission distributed a total of $351,537. The five itemized allocations printed immediately below that statement add to $351,536, a difference of $1. Because the minutes remain in draft form and are on the Aug. 13 agenda for approval, the commission will have an opportunity to approve or revise that record.
The commission is also scheduled to receive a staff update on quarterly reports from 2026 applicants. The agenda does not summarize those reports, so it establishes that an update is planned without showing whether any recipient has completed a project, met a deadline or requested a change.
Any guideline change or direction given for 2027 would remain distinct from the allocations recorded in the draft minutes. The posted document places both matters before the same commission, but it does not say that prior recipients will apply again or receive future funding.
