The Fair Oaks Ranch Municipal Development District would finish the coming fiscal year with more than $5 million in its fund balance under a proposed budget scheduled for City Council consideration Thursday.
The plan forecasts $737,800 in fiscal 2026–27 revenue and $69,771 in expenditures. The resulting $668,029 surplus would raise the district’s projected balance from $4,409,334 at the start of the year to $5,077,363 at the end, according to the council packet.
Most projected revenue would come from $592,800 in local sales tax, with another $145,000 from interest. The district’s largest planned operating expense is $35,500 for professional services. The proposal also continues a $25,000 grant-awards program.
The packet separates the projected ending balance into $5,027,363 assigned for district purposes and $50,000 unassigned. City staff describes the accumulated money as available for future economic-development and capital initiatives, but the proposed budget does not commit the balance to a specific large project.
The Municipal Development District board approved the proposed budget July 8 and forwarded it to City Council, as required by the district’s bylaws. Council consideration is scheduled on the consent agenda for its 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 meeting at the Public Safety Training Room, 7286 Dietz Elkhorn Road.
Approval would authorize the district’s fiscal plan for the year beginning Oct. 1, but the posted packet is still a proposal. The council may remove the item from consent for separate discussion, and the recorded vote will establish whether the budget—and its projected $5.08 million balance—moves forward as written.
The proposed balance is much larger than the year’s operating plan: the district would spend $69,771 while carrying more than $5 million into the following year. Of that ending amount, the budget labels $5,027,363 as assigned for district purposes and leaves $50,000 unassigned. The packet does not name a major capital project for the assigned money, so approval of this budget would not by itself select one.
