What would Comal ISD's bond proposal buy for school buses?

Students could get replacement buses with seat belts if voters approve Proposition A on Nov. 3. Its $539,955,000 total covers more than buses, and the reviewed district pages do not price the bus work separately.

Comal ISD's proposed $539,955,000 Proposition A includes replacing older school buses with buses equipped with seat belts, but the total also covers facilities and land.

The reviewed district bond pages do not specify how many buses would be replaced, a bus-only cost or which routes would get them. Those are the numbers needed to judge the transportation portion on its own; the proposition total is not a bus budget.

What it costs

Proposition A asks voters to authorize $539,955,000 for facilities, land and buses together. A bus-only share cannot be calculated from that combined figure. A district project-level budget, fleet replacement schedule or subsequent bus procurement contract would show what the district plans to spend on transportation and, eventually, what it agrees to buy.

What the reviewed Comal ISD bond pages establish about bus replacement, as of Nov. 1, 2026

Proposition A total$539,955,000 for facilities, land and buses

The total belongs to the entire proposition; it is not a quoted transportation allocation.

Who pays and who benefits

The district says some buses targeted for replacement have logged more than 200,000 miles and lack seat belts. For students, the planned change is replacement of older buses, including some without seat belts, with buses equipped with seat belts. The proposal describes the intended equipment, not a completed purchase or a timetable for any particular route.

The combined bond amount cannot tell a homeowner what bus replacement alone would cost in taxes. The reviewed transportation description supplies neither a bus allocation nor a per-household estimate, so dividing the entire proposition by households would answer a different question.

What has to go right

Voter approval would authorize the proposed bond package; the district would still have to turn the bus plan into a budget and purchases. Comal ISD's 2023 bond proposal also included aging bus replacement in Proposition A. That earlier proposal shows the need was raised before, but proposal language alone does not establish how many buses were purchased afterward.

What the records don't say

The reviewed main bond page, Proposition A page, FAQ and campus-project list do not resolve the bus count, bus-only price or affected routes. Readers can inspect the district's Proposition A description now; the next useful records are the election result and a district transportation budget, replacement schedule or board procurement item that identifies buses and cost.

The district lists Nov. 3, 2026, as Election Day, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The county's election result will establish whether voters authorized Proposition A; a later district spending record would establish the scope of any purchase.
