Comal County commissioners approved moving $1.5 million from the River Road bridge allocation to Road Department spending on Oct. 22. That shifts county money toward road work for the rest of the year.

The transfer directs county road money toward additional asphalt paving and Road Department operating and equipment costs during the remainder of the year. The Oct. 22 agenda describes the uses, but does not name the roads that will be paved.

What the transfer covers

The Oct. 22 agenda lists Road Construction and Maintenance, Overtime, Uniforms, Non-Capital Equipment and Capital Equipment as receiving categories. Its description includes additional asphalt paving, a PC and a pickup. The categories show where the money may go, but not the amount assigned to each line.

Why the bridge allocation matters

In September 2025, commissioners approved funding an engineering study for the River Road crossing at Jacob’s Creek. That earlier action shows the crossing was already a county project before this transfer.

In that 2025 discussion, the county engineer said flooding could submerge the low-water crossing and leave River Road residents trapped. That concern explains the bridge project’s importance to households along the road. The discussion does not establish whether this transfer changes the project schedule.

The next number to watch

The agenda describes the added paving and purchases as covering the remainder of the year. A posted transfer schedule and subsequent Road Department ledger would let residents check the amount assigned to each receiving line. A project schedule would answer the separate question of when bridge construction might proceed.
