Thanksgiving 5K Plan Estimates 1,200 at Bulverde Community Park

Park visitors could lose access to several facilities Thanksgiving morning; a second fundraiser would reserve a gazebo and part of the parking lot Dec. 5.

If approved, the Thanksgiving event would keep other park visitors from using the pavilion, practice fields and two gazebos from about 7 to 10 a.m.; the Dec. 5 event would reserve a gazebo and part of the parking lot from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The H.I.S. Centre application estimates 1,200 attendees for a Turkey Trot 5K and one-mile family run benefiting its community health programs.

Bulverde’s Parks & Recreation Advisory Board is scheduled Tuesday to weigh recommendations on the two permit applications; City Council approval would still be required.

The Thanksgiving application says 35 to 40 volunteers would handle cleanup. It also says two to four off-duty police officers would be stationed near the route.

Provisions: A 25:35 Outreach estimates 150 attendees for its 16th annual Holiday Hunger Run / Walk 5K. The food-pantry fundraiser’s application requests a reservation-fee waiver and says officers would be hired according to the event’s route and attendance needs.

The board is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Bulverde City Hall Council Chamber, 30360 Cougar Bend. The agenda also provides instructions for requesting accessibility accommodations.

The packet’s Aug. 18 minutes show the board voted 5-0 to buy a balance beam, knee-lift station, parallel bars and a volleyball court for Community Park. An earlier Comal.News report examined the parks-fund choices before that vote.

Readers can inspect the agenda packet and both applications before the meeting. The next records to watch are the board’s recommendations and any later City Council agenda or action on the permits.
