Schertz says a citywide burn ban took effect at 7 a.m. Sept. 1 and will remain in place until further notice. The city burn-ban notice was posted Aug. 31.

For residents in the Comal County portion of Schertz, the county Fire Marshal’s burn-status page says Order 570 has prohibited outdoor burning since Aug. 21 at 6 a.m. An earlier Comal.News report explains the county action.
Comal County specifically lists campfires, chimineas, fire pits, fire rings, bonfires and burn piles as prohibited. Its guidance allows barbecue pits used for cooking when a lid contains all sparks and flames.
The Schertz announcement does not spell out its own list of prohibited activities or exemptions. Written city guidance is needed to establish whether its municipal rules match the county list across every part of Schertz.
