A proposed private-road name near Cypress Cove Road appears with two spellings in the official county packet: Russell Rd and Russel Rd.
Comal County commissioners are scheduled to consider Russell Rd on Sept. 10, while the Bexar Metro 9-1-1 review reserves Russel Rd with one fewer l.
The name applies to a private road in the 1400 block of Cypress Cove Road, just west of Cloud Country Drive, and Bexar Metro says its spelling rules are designed around law, fire and EMS responses to 9-1-1 calls.
Bexar Metro 9-1-1’s Aug. 26 review reserved the street name Russel Rd through Aug. 26, 2034 and requires approved spellings to appear unchanged on plats.
The review explains why one letter matters. Bexar Metro evaluates proposed names for their possible effect when emergency-service agencies respond to a 9-1-1 call. It also requires another review when an approved name changes in spelling, suffix or directional wording.
The county’s proposed map uses Russell Rd with two consecutive l’s and places the road near Cypress Cove Road. The packet also includes the site plan assigned for this review.
Approval remains proposed. The Sept. 10 agenda puts the two-l spelling before commissioners as Action Agenda Item 10, while the separate Aug. 26 letter records the one-l version reviewed for 9-1-1 purposes.
The spelling approved by commissioners and the spelling accepted for emergency addressing need to match under the 9-1-1 review’s plat rules. The posted agenda, map and review letter currently identify the same proposed road differently.
Commissioners Court is scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 10 at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels, where Item 10 asks for approval of Russell Rd.
The open questions are which spelling staff will recommend and whether the 9-1-1 approval will be revised if the court chooses the two-l version.
