New Braunfels says traffic around Main Plaza will close at about 7:15 a.m. Sept. 11 for the city’s remembrance ceremony and return to normal at about 8:15 a.m.

Downtown drivers should plan around an approximately one-hour Main Plaza traffic closure during the Friday morning ceremony.

The city’s schedule calls for members of the New Braunfels Fire Department and New Braunfels Police Department Honor Guard to begin marching from the Central Fire Station on Hill Avenue at 7:25 a.m. The ceremony is expected to begin around 7:40 a.m.

A flag raising and lowering is scheduled for 7:46 a.m. The city says the program will also include an invocation, remarks from local dignitaries and a bell ringing in memory of fallen first responders.

People attending the ceremony are asked to gather near the flagpole and bandstand at Main Plaza. The city expects the event to conclude and downtown traffic to resume at approximately 8:15 a.m.

The closure falls during the Friday morning drive through downtown. Drivers approaching Main Plaza should watch for subsequent city traffic notices that may identify barricaded streets, parking changes or recommended detours before Sept. 11.
