Public trail access on roughly 130 acres in northwest New Braunfels cleared an EDC vote unanimously; City Council is scheduled to decide on a five-year lease Sept. 28.
If City Council approves the lease, the city could open natural-surface trails on part of roughly 130 acres in northwest New Braunfels while assuming maintenance, utilities, insurance and improvement costs.
The city’s staff report says NBEDC authorized an expenditure of up to $8 million for the land in February 2024, followed by City Council approval. An earlier Comal.News report examined the lease before the EDC vote; the new record advances the proposal to council.
That sequence puts City Council, rather than the EDC, in position to decide whether the proposed lease moves ahead. The trail access described in the proposal remains contingent on council approval.
The draft lease runs five years, allows one optional five-year extension, lets either party terminate with 30 days’ written notice and assigns construction, maintenance, utility, insurance and improvement expenses to the city.
