Which NBISD families could move under 11 consolidation plans?

NBISD families now face 11 proposed ways to consolidate two elementary campuses. The school a child attends could change, but the plans remain unranked.

Under New Braunfels ISD's 11 unranked scenarios, two of five elementary campuses would be consolidated, with different families moving under each option. The district's numbered scenario plans describe alternatives that it says will receive equal consideration.

When Memorial is selected, its general education students would move to Klein Road; when Walnut Springs is selected, its students would move to Voss Farms. The district's scenario descriptions also move Dual Language and CREATE programs among named buildings, depending on the option.

Five campuses, 11 different combinations

A Comal.News count of the district's scenarios finds County Line in six of the 11 options and each of the other four candidate campuses in four. That is a count of appearances, not a forecast: the district says the alternatives are unranked.

The table pairs the district's current campus figures with the numbered options. A listed destination describes a proposed student move when that campus is selected; it is not an approved reassignment. Families should read the full numbered plan for program placements and other moves.

What the empty seats do—and do not—tell families

The district reports 4,074 elementary students for 6,640 seats across its elementary schools. A Comal.News count of the district's figures puts the districtwide difference at 2,566 seats. That arithmetic describes space across the system; it cannot tell a parent the travel time or staffing at a particular receiving school.

NBISD projects a $7 million funding deficit in its sustainability materials. Consolidation could reduce the cost of operating buildings, but the figures above are enrollment and capacity counts, not a dollar estimate for any numbered option. The useful money question is what each combination would save after moving students and programs.

What should families check next?

For a family weighing one option against another, the destination is only the start. The next questions are the proposed attendance boundary, bus route, travel time, staffing at the receiving campus and the placement of Dual Language or CREATE students. A family at Carl Schurz, for example, should look beyond the four options that select its building: the district's plans also propose moving 89 monolingual students to Seele in several other options.

The district lists forums through Nov. 5, a Nov. 6 committee application deadline, a Jan. 11 committee recommendation and anticipated board action on Jan. 19. Families can compare the numbered plans now and use the district's sustainability page to follow the next public documents and participation schedule.
