For a home in New Braunfels served by New Braunfels Utilities, submit a residential start-service request at least one business day before your preferred start date.

NBU's residential start-service instructions call for a completed application, a valid driver's license or other ID, and a security deposit if one is required for the account. Check the exact address before making plans around that deadline: this guide covers NBU service, and a New Braunfels address alone does not establish which utilities NBU provides there.

For NBU-served addresses, the timing matters because requested service dates are not guaranteed and requests sent after business hours are processed within one to two NBU business days. Allow for that processing window when choosing when to submit a request. NBU states the one-business-day minimum for the request; it does not promise that submitting exactly one business day ahead will secure the preferred date.

Start with the address

NBU places an Interactive Service Area Map in the Resources section of its service page. Use that resource to check whether the new address is in NBU's service area, then ask NBU to confirm which service or services it can start at that address. The distinction is useful for a move within New Braunfels: the instructions describe how to request NBU service, but they are not a list of every provider for every city address.

What to do, in order

Steps for a residential NBU start-service request
StepWhat NBU says to do
Check the addressUse the service-area resource and confirm the services NBU can provide there.
Prepare the requestComplete the start-service application and provide a valid driver's license or
Plan for a depositAsk whether a security deposit applies; its amount can vary.
Submit ahead of timeRequest service at least one business day before the preferred start date.

NBU says requested service dates are not guaranteed.

For the application, use the residential start-service section of NBU's page. Its Resources section also lists a Residential Joint Service Agreement. NBU's instructions say all start-service customers must provide a completed application and valid ID. Have those ready when contacting customer service, and confirm with NBU how it wants the completed documents delivered through the submission method you choose.

The deposit may vary

NBU lists a security deposit among the start-service requirements and says the amount may vary with account history and service type. It also says it runs a free soft credit check that may waive the deposit and will not affect the customer's credit score. The page does not give one deposit amount for every new residential account, so ask NBU what applies to yours before treating a move-in budget as final.

Send the request to NBU

NBU lists four ways to submit a residential start-service request: in person at 1488 S. Seguin Ave., New Braunfels, TX 78130; by phone at 830-629-8400; by mail to P.O. Box 310289, New Braunfels, TX 78131; or by email to customerservice@nbutexas.com. Its listed customer-service hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you are close to the desired start date, account for both those hours and NBU's stated processing time for requests received after business hours.

If you already have NBU residential service and are moving it to another address within its service area, use the transfer-service instructions instead. NBU asks transfer customers for the current and new service addresses and a valid ID; a deposit may depend on account history. Transfer requests also require at least one business day's notice.

Before moving, check NBU's official start, stop and transfer page for the service-area resource and current instructions, then contact customer service at 830-629-8400 to confirm coverage, the applicable deposit and the requested start date for your exact address. Those are the details that determine whether this guide fits your home and whether the service timing fits your move.
