To find the right school district for a Comal County address, start with the Texas Education Agency's district locator, confirm the address and campus with the district, then use that district's 2026–27 new-student registration page.

The locator shows district boundaries, but TEA says its map is informational and approximate. A family should confirm its assignment before beginning registration.

TEA describes its district map as an approximate, informational starting point.

Families enrolling in Comal ISD use Skyward; families enrolling in New Braunfels ISD use ASCENDER and then contact their campus for an appointment. Those are separate 2026–27 processes, with different document lists. This guide covers those two districts; families whose address falls elsewhere should use the locator to identify their district and follow that district's instructions.

1. Check the district, then the campus

Search the TEA locator using its district or county search tools and inspect the approximate boundary around your address. TEA cautions that the map was not prepared for legal purposes and that displayed positions depend on the information available when its data was updated. For an administrative boundary question, TEA directs families to the school district. New Braunfels ISD also links an interactive attendance-boundary map from its schools page; use it to investigate a possible campus, then confirm the assignment with the district.

If the map places an address close to a district boundary, give the district the full residential address when asking which campus serves the student. Do the same if a possible campus appears on a map but you need an enrollment decision. The online maps help narrow the question; the district can address the particular assignment.

2. Gather the documents

Comal ISD asks for proof of residency dated within 30 days of registration, an immunization record, an unofficial transcript or report card from the previous school, the child's birth certificate, and a parent's proof of identity. Custody papers are required when applicable. Its listed residency proofs include a mortgage or lease agreement or a recent electric, gas, water or cable bill. A family that neither owns nor rents its residence must complete and upload a notarized Residency Statement.

New Braunfels ISD lists parent identification, a government-issued birth certificate, an up-to-date immunization record and proof of residency, such as a current water, gas or electric bill or a lease agreement. It also asks for the child's Social Security card if available. Its page says a family living with another NBISD resident needs a Residency Form from Student Services. The district lists September 1, 2026, as the date by which a kindergartener must be 5.

Comal ISD also requires custody papers when applicable. New Braunfels ISD lists a child's Social Security card only if available.

3. Submit the correct registration

For Comal ISD, request a Skyward account first. The district says it will email a username and a password-setup link. In Skyward, choose New Student Registration and the KG–12 New Student tile; the Pre-K tile is separate and includes eligibility information. Upload the requested documents, including immunization records. Comal ISD advises using a computer browser instead of the mobile Skyward app for registration.

Comal ISD says Skyward does not send a message saying a registration is being processed. A Submitted tile means the campus is still reviewing it. Once the campus approves registration, Family Access appears in Skyward with the student's name, school year and campus. If the tile says Denied, open it to read the campus message about what may be missing. Students in grades 6–12 then meet with a campus counselor to build a schedule.

For New Braunfels ISD, complete the 2026–27 new-student enrollment in the ASCENDER Parent Portal. The district says the portal works from a device with internet access. After submitting the online portion, contact the assigned campus directly to arrange an appointment to complete registration. The district's schools page lists campuses and their phone numbers, and its new-student page directs families to the campus for registration help.

Where to go next

Start with TEA's district locator, then ask the district to confirm your address and assigned campus. Once that is settled, use the Comal ISD or New Braunfels ISD registration page for the current steps. New Braunfels ISD families can find campus phone numbers on its schools page; Comal ISD families can check their submission and campus approval in Skyward.
