The Aug. 25 award notice identifies the amount, one-year term and truancy-prevention program.

Texas awarded Comal County $30,000 for one year of counseling through the Student and Family Empowerment program, subject to county acceptance Sept. 3.

The grant budget directs $25,000 to Stogner and Associates and $5,000 to John T. Conboy for individual and family counseling connected to the county’s truancy-prevention work.

Stogner and Associates would provide counseling focused on communication, coping skills, anger management and life skills. The budget estimates individual and family sessions at $90 an hour, an initial family evaluation at $125 and psychosocial assessments or group sessions at $150. Conboy’s individual counseling is estimated at $95 an hour.

The state dated the award Aug. 25 and set the grant period from Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2027. The award lists no county cash or in-kind match, while the preserved project summary labels its status as pending acceptance by the county’s authorized official.

The next service measure will be how many students and families receive counseling during the grant year and what outcomes the county tracks. Commissioners are scheduled to consider acceptance as item 10 when they meet at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 3 at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels; the official agenda provides the meeting details and the route for following the decision.
