Comal County commissioners will consider two linked requests totaling $516,000 for five Sheriff's Office patrol SUVs. The proposals are items 13 and 14 on the Sept. 24 agenda; both remain subject to a Commissioners Court vote.
If approved, the county would move $206,000 out of the Sheriff's Office hourly-personnel line and combine $310,000 from two forfeiture-related funds for the five vehicles. That would fund five vehicles for patrol service while redirecting money already budgeted for hourly personnel into capital equipment.
The budget-amendment request, dated Sept. 14, would transfer $206,000 for two SUVs. The companion agenda item proposes three additional SUVs using $70,000 from the Sheriff’s Miscellaneous Forfeiture Fund and $240,000 from the Sheriff’s Office Federal Asset Sharing Fund. Together, the requests split the vehicle purchase between a budget transfer and money held in forfeiture-related accounts.
Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels. The recorded action will establish whether the requests are approved, changed or rejected. Residents can inspect the meeting notice and agenda before the vote.
