The Texas Veterans Commission opened applications for an estimated $31 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance grants, with a 5 p.m. Central time deadline on Dec. 2, 2026.
The state’s announcement says nonprofits and local government agencies providing direct services to veterans may apply for awards ranging from $50,000 to $600,000.
Eligible nonprofits and local government agencies that serve Comal County veterans can apply; the announcement does not identify a local applicant or award. The grants support services such as housing assistance, mental health care and job training. Veterans seeking help are not the applicants in this grant round; service providers apply for the funding.
The portal opened Oct. 2. For the 2028 funding period, the state says grants run for 24 months, applicants may seek and receive up to three grants, and county governments may receive up to four, including a Veteran Treatment Court grant. Those are statewide program terms, not awards to any Comal County provider.
The next verification point is the application deadline, followed by the commission’s award announcements. The governor’s announcement identifies the commission’s grantseeker page as the place to inspect eligibility rules, the request for applications, webinars and frequently asked questions.
