Schertz weighs design work for Weir Road crossing

Drivers near the Weir Road crossing could see the repair project move toward design under a proposed engineering agreement; the city has not awarded construction work.

For drivers who use the Weir Road crossing at Cibolo Creek, a proposed engineering agreement would move repairs toward design. Construction would require later action.

Schertz City Council is scheduled to consider a $147,575 engineering task order for the Weir Road crossing at Cibolo Creek on Oct. 20.

The proposed Resolution 26-R-118 would authorize a task order with Halff and allow the city manager to execute it for no more than $160,000. The draft resolution remains unsigned; council action has not been established by these posted records.

What the engineering work covers

The task order describes reconstruction of about 150 linear feet of Weir Road at the Cibolo Creek crossing, including culverts and headwalls. It also calls for conceptual low-water-crossing improvements. That description establishes the area and features to be designed; it does not establish a final construction price.

The proposal would move crossing repairs into design and related professional services, but it is not a construction contract. Halff's listed work includes engineering plans, bidding documents and services during construction. For drivers who use the crossing, the immediate decision is whether Schertz commissions that preparatory work; the posted proposal does not itself set a road-closure schedule or authorize a builder to begin work.

The $160,000 figure is the proposed limit on the city manager's execution authority, rather than the stated task-order fee. The draft task order lists January 2027 as an expected construction start, a planning date rather than an award or start notice.

When the decision comes

Council is scheduled to meet Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Hal Baldwin Municipal Complex, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Building 4. The posted agenda lists a resident-hearing period with speaker registration and a three-minute limit. Resolution 26-R-118 appears as item 5.

The next record to check is the council's Oct. 20 action on Resolution 26-R-118. Readers can inspect the proposed task order for the scope and fee now; an adopted resolution or meeting minutes would establish what council actually authorized. An executed agreement, completed design and later bid documents would show how the work proceeds.
