Members of the Schertz Area Senior Center rated complaint handling, cleanliness and staff help higher in the 2026 survey than in 2024, while asking for more seating and afternoon classes.

The results are scheduled for presentation to Schertz City Council on Oct. 13; the posted material describes a presentation, not a decision on those requests.

The largest rating gains

The survey drew 173 responses July 2–27: 128 online and 45 in person. That is 21.36% of the center’s 810 members and 39.86% of its 434 active members, according to the survey. These are responses from participating members, so the ratings should not be read as a count of every member’s experience.

On the survey’s five-point questions, the weighted average for resolving complaints and conflicts increased from 3.82 in 2024 to 4.24 in 2026, a gain of 0.42 point. Cleanliness rose from 4.25 to 4.55, and the rating for knowledgeable and helpful staff rose from 4.47 to 4.68. Those were the largest gains among the comparable five-point questions summarized in the survey.

Facilities cleanliness4.254.55+0.30
Knowledgeable/helpful staff4.474.68+0.21

Weighted averages on a five-point scale; changes are 2026 minus 2024.

The ten-point ratings moved less uniformly. Free lunch rose from 7.73 in 2024 to 8.02 in 2026, while group exercise slipped from 8.68 to 8.52. The scales differ, so those figures should not be directly compared with the five-point service ratings.

What members requested

Respondents asked for more seating, including chairs with arms for mobility, and additional afternoon classes. The survey’s open-ended summary also notes concern about cliques, alongside praise for staff, activities, fitness offerings and a cleaner atmosphere. Those comments identify issues raised by respondents; the summary does not establish how many members share each view.

What happens next

Recreation Manager Cassandra Paddock is scheduled to present the results to City Council at its Oct. 13 meeting, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Hal Baldwin Municipal Complex Council Chambers, 1400 Schertz Parkway, Building 4. Readers can inspect the council’s posted agenda for the presentation; the meeting record will be the next place to check for any documented response to requests for seating and afternoon classes.
