Schertz City Council is scheduled to consider a $35,000 Lookout Road design amendment on Oct. 20, with the design task-order ceiling rising to $600,000 if approved.
The proposed change concerns the planned sewer main and the road’s intersection with Schertz Parkway; the posted resolution records a proposal, not a council decision.
What the extra design work covers
The proposed work would enlarge the planned western sewer main for anticipated flow and shift the Schertz Parkway intersection design to avoid impacts to Blue Bonnet Palace right of way. The proposed contract amendment assigns $30,000 to the intersection redesign and $5,000 to additional corrections. Those are design assignments; the documents do not establish that construction or a revised alignment has been approved.
The design task-order ceiling now stands at $571,000 in the staff material. Staff proposes using $6,000 of existing contingency toward the $35,000 change and moving $29,000 from construction to professional services, leaving the overall project budget unchanged in this proposal. That allocation explains why the requested design work is larger than the proposed increase in the task-order ceiling.
