Policy 2.11 on internet and electronic resource use is scheduled for review and possible approval by the New Braunfels Library Advisory Board on Oct. 27.

For library patrons, the posted policy text sets out free Wi-Fi, printing fees and conditions for losing internet access. The board’s posted agenda describes the action as a review and possible approval, so the policy question remains before the board.

Excerpt from the Policy 2.11 text posted with the Oct. 27 meeting materials.

The posted policy carries approval and revision dates through Oct. 16, 2023. The attachment provides the policy text for readers to inspect ahead of the meeting; the next useful record will be the board’s action on that text. Readers can compare the provisions below with the full Policy 2.11 attachment.

What the posted policy says

The text says the library does not monitor information accessed on the internet and leaves judgments about appropriate material to users or a child’s parent or guardian. Staff may help with internet use as time permits, and the policy points patrons to Device Advice and Book a Librarian services. These provisions matter to families deciding how children will use library computers and to patrons seeking help with electronic resources.

Computer rules in the posted text prohibit damaging or disconnecting equipment, maliciously offensive or libelous activity, illegal use and copyright violations. Patrons pay printing fees, and violations may lead to a loss of access. Staff may also limit an adult’s internet use when children are inadequately supervised. Those are practical conditions for patrons to review before any board action.

Wi-Fi is described as free and unencrypted, with workstation policies also applying to wireless use. Patrons using personal devices can read the wireless provisions in the posted policy text before connecting; the document’s description of an unencrypted network is especially relevant when deciding what information to transmit.

Other business and how to attend

The New Braunfels Library Advisory Board is scheduled to meet Oct. 27, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the New Braunfels Public Library, 700 E. Common St. The posted agenda begins with a call to order and roll call, followed by approval of minutes. It also provides for communications from citizens and board members on matters outside the agenda, with no board action at that time.

The board is scheduled to hear monthly operations reports from the library director, the Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library. After the Policy 2.11 item, the agenda lists the next meeting for Nov. 24, 2026, before adjournment. The meeting packet identifies Library Director Cole Johnson as presenter for the policy item and the next-meeting item; it does not turn either listed item into an Oct. 27 outcome.

People needing a disability accommodation are directed by the agenda to contact the City Secretary’s Office at (830) 221-4010 at least two workdays before the meeting. For the board’s decision and any public comments, the next verification point is the record of the Oct. 27 meeting; meanwhile, the official agenda gives the location and participation details, and the policy attachment shows the wording under review.
