New Braunfels and Comal County activated their Emergency Operations Center, while city crews pre-staged barricades at flood-prone crossings ahead of a National Weather Service flood watch.

Comal County is under a flood watch from Wednesday evening through Friday evening, with 2 to 4 inches of rain expected and isolated totals up to 8 inches possible. The alert says flooding could affect rivers, creeks, low-water crossings, poor-drainage areas and city streets, and it identifies New Braunfels among places that may experience flooding.

As of the city’s Sept. 30 update, no changes were anticipated for solid waste or city facilities, and both the Comal and Guadalupe rivers were open for recreation. That operating baseline could change: the city said staff would monitor the rivers and weather conditions as the system moves through South Central Texas.

One city event already changed. The Municipal Court warrant resolution event was postponed, with no new date included in the city announcement. The release said later decisions about meetings, programs and events would depend on whether conditions deteriorate.

The city said Police and Fire departments had made preparations, but its update described no active road closures. It warned drivers not to pass barricades or enter standing water. Outdoor warning sirens would be used if river flooding occurs, and residents can register a mobile phone for city emergency alerts.

The city will decide whether to close Comal River access and the City Tube Chute if conditions warrant, and it directs drivers to its website for any road-closure updates. Those decisions—not the watch by itself—will determine whether residents encounter immediate limits on travel, recreation or public services.

Residents can use the National Weather Service alert to verify the watch period, rainfall range and affected counties. The city weather update is the source for local road, river, facility and event status. The next consequential records are an updated weather alert or a city notice changing those local conditions.
