New Braunfels residents may apply through 5 p.m. Sept. 18 for a council-appointed Charter Review Commission that will recommend possible charter changes.
The commission’s recommendations could shape a potential May 2027 charter-amendment election for New Braunfels voters. The panel will send its proposals to City Council, which would decide what advances toward an election.
The city says the commission will include at least seven people who live within New Braunfels. Each council member will appoint one resident, and the appointees will serve through May 2027 while reviewing the charter and preparing recommendations.
Applicants who are appointed must complete one hour of Texas Open Meetings Act training. The city directs prospective members to its boards-and-commissions application system for eligibility descriptions and online submission.
For residents, the immediate opportunity is a seat in the review itself rather than a vote on proposed charter language. Any amendment election remains potential until the commission completes its work and the council decides what to place before voters.
