Medicare open enrollment runs through Dec. 7, and changes made during this window take effect Jan. 1, 2027. The federal Medicare open enrollment guidance says the annual window began Oct. 15 and that a plan must receive an enrollment request by Dec. 7.
Comal County Medicare recipients who want to change eligible health or drug coverage must get their enrollment request to the plan by Dec. 7. The Texas Department of Insurance also posted an Oct. 21 notice telling Medicare recipients that open enrollment is underway and describing the opportunity to join, switch or drop a Medicare Advantage or drug plan.

What a person can change depends on the coverage they have now. Medicare.gov says people may switch Medicare Advantage plans, change a Medicare drug plan while in Original Medicare, or move between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage. Someone moving to Original Medicare may need a separate drug plan and may want to consider supplemental insurance; Medicare.gov cautions that there are limits on when that insurance can be added.
The next step is to compare the coverage options that apply to your current plan and submit any change before the deadline. The Medicare.gov enrollment page explains the available types of changes and provides a route to find plans. It does not establish which plan is best for a particular resident or what that resident would pay.
