A $235,000 Texas Veterans Commission grant would support Comal County’s Veterans Treatment Court for the 2026-27 grant year if commissioners accept the award Thursday.
The grant-backed agreement would fund a dedicated community supervision officer, drug testing, training, travel and a work phone, with those listed reimbursements capped at $73,904.
The largest listed expense is $70,791 for the officer’s salary and benefits. The agreement adds $1,380 for drug analysis and testing, $1,250 for training and travel, and $483 for the officer’s phone. Comal County would reimburse the regional supervision department monthly for eligible costs.
For court participants, the assigned officer would monitor compliance with court-ordered conditions, conduct risk and needs assessments, maintain case files and help with transportation. The officer also would participate in Veterans Treatment Court staff meetings and maintain the certifications required for community supervision work.
The proposed agreement would run from Sept. 1, 2026, through Aug. 31, 2027, and could be renewed in one-year increments by mutual consent. Commissioners are scheduled to consider the grant and supervision agreement at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels.
