Comal County commissioners will consider buying two ballistic shields for the Precinct 2 constable with money from the Justice Court Security Fund on Sept. 3.
The proposal would direct court-security money toward protective equipment for the county office serving Precinct 2. Commissioners have not yet approved the purchase.
Agenda item 14 identifies the quantity, requesting office and proposed funding source. The court is being asked to authorize a specific two-shield purchase rather than hold a general equipment discussion.
The decision leaves residents with two consequential questions: what model, protection rating and price does the county propose, and how will officers be trained to use the shields? Those details would show what the security fund would buy and how the equipment would be deployed.
Commissioners Court meets at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels. The posted rules allow three minutes of citizen comment on a specific agenda item. Residents can inspect the Sept. 3 agenda and the supporting attachment in the complete meeting package; the next verification point is the court’s recorded action on item 14.
