Comal County commissioners will consider accepting a Johnson Way segment for county maintenance in exchange for a developer-funded $175,000 repair payment.
If approved, the county would take over maintenance of the listed Johnson Way segment after the developer funds the proposed repairs. The change would shift responsibility for future upkeep of that portion from private parties to the county.
DHJB Development’s July 10 letter says the identified segment is private while the rest of Johnson Way has already been conveyed to the county. The Johnson Ranch Master Community board submitted a letter supporting the transfer.
The packet estimates about $150,000 for work on Johnson Way, including contingency, and about $25,000 for other listed repairs. DHJB proposes paying the combined $175,000 within seven days after Commissioners Court approves the acceptance and requests the money.
The developer’s letter describes county ownership and maintenance of the entire road as the long-term goal. The scheduled vote concerns the identified segment and the proposed funding terms; it does not place the road in the county system before commissioners act.
The vote is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Sept. 3 in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza in New Braunfels. Residents can use the official agenda to verify the meeting details and Item 8; the recorded vote and county engineering requirements will show whether and how the transfer proceeds.
