ICE closed its 2025–26 Comal County detention contract after reducing the agreement from $30,000 to $800. The agreement covered a county jail service: holding people for the federal agency at a stated $100 bed-day rate.
Comal County provided detention bed space under the agreement, and commissioners will decide Sept. 3 whether to ratify the sheriff’s closeout signature. The proposal appears as item 15 on the court’s action agenda.
The Aug. 21 federal modification says the contracted services had been received, inspected and accepted. It records the closeout as a net decrease of $29,200 and says the federal government considers its obligations concluded.
The original task order divided its funding between two equal lines. The closeout reduced the first by $14,200 and removed the second line entirely, leaving 2.7% of the original contract value obligated.
The task order’s performance period ran from July 23, 2025, through July 22, 2026. ICE issued the closeout one month after that period ended, and the county agenda asks commissioners to ratify Sheriff Mark Reynolds’ signature rather than approve a completed vote retroactively.
Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the Commissioners Courtroom at 100 Main Plaza. The notice allows three minutes per person for public comments and provides the full agenda for residents who want to follow the ratification item.
